Getting around Sayulita: walking, golf carts, taxis and buses
Sayulita is a small, walkable town. From our homes in the quiet south end it's 7 to 8 minutes on foot to the main beach and the plaza, and 8 to 9 minutes to Playa de los Muertos. Golf carts are the easiest way to carry groceries and beach gear, taxis wait in the town square for trips out of town, and buses leave from the bus station for nearby towns.
Is Sayulita walkable?
Yes. Most cafés, restaurants, shops and beaches are a few minutes on foot from the south end, and most of our guests walk everywhere for their whole stay. All three of our homes are within a few minutes' walk of each other, so the times below are close for all of them.
| From our homes | Walking time | Distance |
|---|---|---|
| Playa Sayulita and the plaza | 7 to 8 min | 550 to 600 m |
| Playa de los Muertos | 8 to 9 min | 650 m |
| Playa Carricitos | 17 min | 1.1 km |
| Playa Malpaso | 30 to 45 min from the north end of Playa Sayulita |
The streets are hilly in places, and the entrance to Vida Feliz Casitas is at the top of a hill. If you're carrying a week of groceries up it in the afternoon heat, that's when a golf cart earns its keep.
Should you rent a golf cart in Sayulita?
You don't need one to enjoy Sayulita, but they're the most popular way to get around town, and for good reason. A cart makes the supermarket run easy, gets you to Carricitos with a cooler and chairs, and is welcome on a hot afternoon.
We keep two electric carts for guests staying with us:
- $55 USD a day by card, or $45 a day in cash (US dollars, Canadian dollars or pesos)
- Noon to noon, for at least two days. Book by noon the day before
- A $500 USD deposit is held on your card, even if you pay cash, and released once the cart is back
- The driver must be 18 or older with a full licence from any country
- Up to 4 people, on town streets only (not the highway or the beach)
Book on our golf cart page with your booking code. Tony has the cart charged and ready, and arranges the handover with you on WhatsApp. For Carricitos, you can park along the side of the road at the beach entrance.
Are there taxis in Sayulita?
Yes. Taxis wait in the town square and will take you anywhere nearby, including San Pancho (about five minutes away by car) and the airport in Puerto Vallarta. It's the simplest way to do a day trip without driving.
Can you take the bus from Sayulita?
Sayulita has a bus station with buses to nearby towns. The green and white Compostela buses run between Sayulita and Puerto Vallarta for about 60 pesos and take around an hour and a half. They're safe, used by locals every day, and best if you're travelling light. Current routes and times are on Sayulita Life.
For the trip from the airport to your door, including VIP transfers, see Getting here.
Driving and parking in Sayulita
If you're driving, a smaller car is easier on the town's narrow streets. There's street parking near all three of our homes. Please don't block driveways or entrances: the neighbours need them as much as we do.
- Vida Feliz Casitas: street parking, plus an area for golf carts
- Casa Aurora: one parking space at the Main House
- Casa Karma: private parking at the Main House, and a golf cart spot for the Casita
Once you've parked, you probably won't need the car again until you leave.
